Oregon: Top Towns for Livability!

More kudos for the Pacific Northwest:

Outside Magazine named Hood River, Oregon as one of the top 10 "river towns" in the U.S. for livability in its recent issue.

Outside also named beautiful Eugene, Oregon, home of the University of Oregon, as an "top 10 write-in" (numbers 11-20 of the Top 20) in the same article. Cle Elum, Washington also made the "write-in" list.

Check it out and see why we love it out here!

Welcome, International Society of Arboriculture!

"An arborist, by definition, is an individual trained in the art and science of planting, caring for, and maintaining individual trees," according to the website for the International Society of Arboriculture.

Fitting that they should hold their 2012 meeting in Portland, Oregon, a city whose urban canopy is among the lushest and most diverse in the U.S.

Their meeting begins today at the Oregon Convention Center and runs through the week. We hope everyone will welcome them, and that our guest arborists get out and enjoy our tree-filled parks, streets and, of course, urban forest.

Welcome, Ecology Society of America!

This week, the nation's leading experts on biodiversity convene in Portland to explore the topic, "Life on Earth: Preserving, Utilizing, and Sustaining our Ecosystems."

Oregon: first "Electric Highway" in U.S.

Welcome, New Chaucer Society!

This week, the world's leading experts on literature and culture in the era of the Olde English writer Geoffrey Chaucer are in Portland, furthering the world's understanding of the originators of what became our present-day lingua franca. The conference, which runs thru Friday, July 27, takes place at the Marriott Waterfront and University Place hotels.

Meanwhile they are also exploring Portland and surrounds, with voyages into the Columbia Gorge, the Oregon Coast, and of course, the City of Portland's culture and beer scenes.

Welcome, Chaucerians, and "mennie happie retourns."

Celebrate Oregon Craft Beer Month!

July is officially "Oregon Craft Beer Month," and no place celebrates it better than here in Beer City.

Portland is known the world over for its beer, and its sister brewing cities across the state are no slouches, either.

With over 40 breweries now in the city limits and over 100 statewide, craft brewers continue to elbow their big megabrewing cousins aside when it comes to tap space in pubs, bars and especially festivals in the region.

The 35th Annual Newport Seafood & Wine Festival kicks off this Friday and runs February 23, 24, 25, and 26, 2012 in Newport, OR.

This event takes place in a tented venue near the Rogue Ales Brewery at the South Beach Marina in Newport. Pacific Northwest Wineries pour the finest of wines while culinary professionals serve cuisines of delectable delights sure to entice our palates. You won't be surprised to discover that an overwhelming proportion of the food offered comes from the sea.

Ten more points for the Northwest's Beer Scene

The Pacific Northwest's beer scene scored another victory in its quest for eternal Beervana-dom. Or rather, ten victories.

DRAFT magazine named ten of the Northwest's beer bars in the US' top 100 this week, including some of our favorites we like to feature in our "Beer Here Coach Tour".

Portland featured six of the nation's best, while larger-market Seattle scored four.

Lessons learned from 17 coaches

Recently we had the opportunity to provide extensive custom step-on guide services to a new client. This very fun day involved deploying nearly half of our current crew of 40+ Resident Experts to entertain guests on seventeen motor coaches to a sporting event some three hours away from two downtown starting locations.

We learned some rather interesting lessons:

  • When over 1,000 people sign up to travel by coach for three hours to an event they could watch on TV, a large percentage may cancel.
    • Especially if they live in warmer climates and it is December.

Why Oregon in Winter?

Looking for a great location for a winter conference or meeting? Or, perhaps, just a great travel destination for the colder months?

Portland, Oregon is your meeting winter wonderland.

Portland's great facilities include over 120 hotels - 81 of which Trip Advisor rates as “Business Center” type of facilities - as well as over 1,800 restaurants, a fabulous transportation system and a pedestrian-friendly downtown. We also have over 300 separate attractions and tours available for great getaways between meetings and events.

A Gorge-ous Mistake NOT to make

We are very fortunate to live in the Pacific Northwest, with all of its magnificent beauty.

As crazy as it may seem, some residents of the Pacific Northwest live their whole lives and never partake of the region's amazing charms.

Recently I met just such a person, who has never visited the Columbia Gorge.

Huh?? Are you kidding me?

Just an hour's drive from Portland, the Gorge's rich history and breathtaking natural beauty make for an outstanding day trip.
